Look to the Word

Proverbs 4:20- 22.

When we put the word before our eyes we are receiving a picture of who we are to be and what has been given to us as Children of God. This is why it is of vital importance for the believer to develop a consistency in the reading and attending to God’s word.We must get into a daily habit of getting the word before our eyes, in other words holding the word with our hands and reading it with our eyes. Proverbs 4:21 says it the following way “Let the word not depart from your eyes; keep the word in the midst of your heart”, it goes on to say: “For the word is life to those that find it, and health to all your flesh”. Think about that, God’s word that enters our eyes and into our heart, produces the life of God and also health to all our flesh. Praise God.

I once heard a Preacher give the following thought, he said that symptoms of the flu were attacking his body, and he began to quote memorized scripture, as he was very busy and could not sit down to read the word. This went on for about a week, the flu symptoms continued and he was confessing scriptures of healing over his body, yet he felt that the flu was not going away. So this preacher said, he went before the Lord in prayer to find out what was wrong. He said that God answered him the following, “You have been quoting scripture from memory, without giving it much thought, but the memory of a Potato never fed anybody, you need to get a potato and physically touch it and eat it so that it can do you some good. In the same way, you need to get the word before your eyes and look at it, and let the word go into your heart, so that it can do you good, thus bringing life to you and health to all your flesh”. The preacher said that it changed the way he looked at the word.

The Bible says that God’s word is like medicine, and you know that we can think about medicine, but if we do not take it, only thinking about it will do us no good. It is exactly the same with the word. Beloved brother and sister, to memorize scripture and to quote it, is good but it is not the best. We must attend to it, look at it and read it out loud to receive the full benefits that the word has for us.

I want to encourage you this month to look to the word on a daily basis; if possible a few times a day have it before you. And allow it to produce the life of God, and to bring healing to all your flesh.
